Exhibition Summary

Mysteries of the Codex: Flora, Fauna, and Machines explores the work and world of Luigi Serafini. The Codex Serafinianus was started in Serafini’s Rome apartment in 1976. When it was finally published in 1981 a unique encyclopedia of a surrealistic world was unleashed. There are many different sections of the book including alien representations of culture, clothing, architecture, and science. However, some of the most captivating concepts and images come from the flora, fauna, and machine sections. Viewers can expect to explore original artworks from these sections of the books and gaze upon Serafini’s ideas come to life in the form of sculpture. Numerous detailed sculptural displays will promote another level of exploration and whimsy.
